getting out of the house

I find it challenging to get out and about. Ansel and I drove into San Francisco today to meet Jeremy for lunch. I wanted to take BART but it was going to be too difficult with a stroller and baby. BART elevators often don't work and the stroller is too heavy and bulky for me to carry by myself up and down stairs. Plus, when the train goes through the tunnel under the bay Ansel's ear may pop and upet him. So I drove. After meeting Jeremy I decided to go to a discount sports store to buy a new sports bra sized to accomodate a nursing mother. I couldn't find the store and once I did I discovered it had moved. By then Ansel was ready to eat again and was screaming in the back seat so I had to pull over and nurse. I finally made it to the store's new location and chose some items to try on. We headed into the dressing room and Ansel started to fuss again, loudly. So we found a place to sit (store has a couch!) and nursed for a couple minutes. Back to the dressing room I quickly tried on 3 things as he was still not completely calm. I did find one that fit and quickly bought it. Back in the car we headed for the bridge to go home. He seemed content in the back seat where he usually falls asleep. At 2 in the afternoon (!) there was traffic backed up to get on the bridge and Ansel started to cry again becasue we weren't moving. His cry increased to a gut wrenching wail. I got a lump in my throat as I was stuck. No where to stop, nothing I could do. I turned on classical music. Between that and the speed picking up he finally fell asleep half way across the bridge. It was a lovely piece with strings and a harpsicord (technically a string?). I swear at one point I looked in the rear view mirror and saw Ansel with his hands near his shoulders conducting. Sometimes I think it is easier to stay home.
