The Sunday before Thanksgiving my parents, my brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Suzanne, and her mom, came over for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner. I love having dinner parties but we don't do it as much these days. I had the whole of Thanksgiving week off which was needed to get ready for our trip and get a head start on my holiday shopping.
On Thursday, Jeremy, Ansel and I flew to Boston. Flying with a toddler is difficult. Ansel had his own seat so we put his car seat in it and then strapped him in. With the way the plane seat is designed Ansel's feet stick out and touch the seat back in front of him. The woman in front of him put her seat back which made it worse because not only could Ansel touch the seat he could push on it with his feet. The woman didn't want to keep her seat forward and was annoyed by his kicking. What am I supposed to do? I think all airlines should have a family section. I have noticed that people who have had kids are much more patient and understanding in these kinds of situations. We flew United and I was not thrilled with many things (especially in comparison to Jet Blue). There were no changing tables in the bathroom, no TVs on the back of the seat in front of you, little legroom and too many charges. The charges seem to be universal now. On top of expensive seats, we paid $15 per piece of checked in luggage and then $6 for a box of snacks. For those traveling with kids, did you know that there is a family line at security you can go through? We flew past a huge security line. And, although you are not supposed to bring liquid on a plane, you can if it is for a young child. TSA is messed up.
So back to our trip. We arrived in time for Thanksgiving dinner at Jeremy's aunt and uncle's.
The next day Ansel and I saw my Aunt Bea, cousin Rick, cousin Juliana and her three girls, and an old family friend Yate.
It was lovely to see them and Ansel had fun.
On Saturday, we celebrated Great Grandpa Abe's 95th birthday. I love that Ansel gets this time with his Great Grandpa. I remember a few visits with mine on my mom's side. Being around a family of photographers I found myself while holding Ansel as being the subject of many photos. I am hoping we get some copies...

The rest of our weekend was spent relaxing with family.

Who are you calling a loser?
The flight back was more of the same and Ansel wouldn't fall asleep. Then about half way through the flight the pilot told us a warning light had come on and we'd be landing in Denver in 30 minutes to switch planes. That went fine and Ansel enjoyed riding the moving walkway eight times while we waited. But, the detour got us in to SF later than expected and by the time he went to bed it was 1 am (with only 2 hours sleep on the plane from Denver).
Because of the lack of sleep and all the people he was around the past five days I was not surprised that Ansel woke up late Monday night with a fever. I stayed home with him Tuesday and he was much better by the evening. I think he just needed some good rest and quiet.
