Great Grandpa Abe, Ansel, and Jeremy
Cute picture of daddy with Ansel.
From Boston, Jeremy flew home and Ansel and I continued our journey. We drove west to North Chatham, NY, to visit my cousin Alan and family. Here are the kids together. Hugo, Violet and Ansel.
They took us to a sheep dairy farm where we saw baby sheep resting and mama sheep being milked.
Ansel loved Hugo and Violet's ride-on tractor.
From NY we drove back to Boston to visit Aunt Bea and cousin Rick.

From Boston we drove to New York City. We saw lots of old friends and some family.

Grandma and I brought A to the Central Park Zoo - a small, but sweet zoo.
Grandma bought these great glasses for Ansel as we were leaving the zoo. He is very pleased with himself.
I had a good time traveling with Ansel. He was a good travel partner. NY city was a little difficult because of all the people and traffic and noise. When sitting in the stroller we was at exhaust pipe level and often when crossing the street cars would be in the crosswalk forcing us to walk past the pipe. Streets were crowded and people would talk on the their cell phones and weave while walking. He enjoyed seeing the trucks and taxis. He took his first steps the day before we left. Grandma and I were able to get him to do four to seven steps. He walked on three consecutive occasions. Since then, he has only taken one to two steps. It was very exciting to see him walking.
We are back in California now. The morning after our return, Jeremy, Ansel and I walked to the farmers' market. I was so happy to see that the summer bounty was still in full force - tomatoes, beans, dahlias, peaches, corn. I love that Ansel will grow up shopping at a local farmers' market. Our market is very family friendly and there is often a group of children congregating around a musician performing.
In 2003, Jeremy and I entered a pie in a friend's (competitive but amiable)Pie Off. There were five categories and we won best of tree fruit which meant nothing but bragging rights. Well, there has not been a Pie Off in five years in the east bay until Sunday. We brought two pies filled with fruits from the farmers' market. Our blueberry pie won us best of our category (berry) once again. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.
