Ok, the bad stuff first to get it out of the way. I have often thought that people should have permits to be allowed children. At work I have heard things like, "Why should I breastfeed, I get WIC milk for free," or "I don't know what time he went to bed. He was watching the Spiderman video when I went to sleep." Of course I have met many non permit bearing parents in my time who were excellent parents. But, it wouldn't hurt if people had to take a parenting class before getting pregnant, or in our case a "How to Act Like Responsible Parents" class. Last night Jeremy went on his usual mountain bike night ride with some friends. I knew something was wrong when he came home earlier than expected. He'd crashed, had a bloody, swollen shin and needed 6 stitches in his ear. So off he went to the ER solo. I stayed with Ansel who blissfully slept through it all. Jeremy came home around 5:30 in the morning back in one piece. I, however, have a weak stomach and upon his arrival and hearing about his exploits fainted on the bathroom floor head first. Once again Ansel slept through it all. So mom and dad stayed home from work today with Ansel who was happy as a lark. Mom has a red crescent line/scratch on her forehead and dad is limping and has bandages over all the sore parts. Jeremy and I have been talking about writing a will and designating a couple to take Ansel if we should both die. I guess there is no need to put off that conversation any longer.
Ok, now the good stuff. Ansel is awesome. He turned 4 months today. He's squealing and very active. He always wants to stand or sit up with help. He has the most wonderful gummy smile that stretches from ear to ear and his bright, blue eyes light up. He gets excited when he's about to be picked up, flapping his arms and kicking his legs. He took two naps in his big crib today (rather than the co-sleeper crib). I ordered an Exersaucer for him and had hoped it would arrive today but it didn't. I think he'll like it.

I want photos... of the injuries!
Jamie came home and told me about the crash...my response was, "poor Diana"...he didn't seem to understand and responded, "no, poor Jeremy". I have half a mind to ban the night rides - as if I could. Jamie just barely came back in one piece from one several months ago. I usually start panicking at about 10:30 if they haven't come home yet. There's just so much more at stake now. We still have to make our living will, too. Hopefully we'll get it done before she reaches 2.
The best I can do on a ban is to tell Jeremy to let his body heal before he does anything else active!
Wow, what a busy night that was! We have talked of getting the stuff in writing about who will get the kiddos, but alas haven't gotten around to it. I am impressed ansel actually sleeps in his cosleeper and crib. mine are just for looks these days as i have given up once again. Rowan does take naps pretty well in our bed though which his sister never did!
Healing thoughts your way, and what a cute orange hat!
