Summer Part 4

Ansel and Amalia took swim classes this summer. Ansel is very comfortable in the water now. This was Amalia's first swim class. She hates water on her head but she enjoyed jumping in and splashing.

My big boy started preschool at the end of August. I was fortunate to be able to have him start before I went back to school so I spent the first day with him. He was fine and couldn't wait to go play. I, on the other hand, had all sorts of concerns: Will he be able to sit through circle time? Will he remember his teachers' names? Will he make friends? I love the school. It is set in the owners previous home, has a fun back yard, great schedule, and very eclectic mix of families. Here is Ansel in front of the school on the first day.

We love to visit Lake Temescal when it is warm enough. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable taking the kids alone. So my mom came with us a couple of times. Amalia prefers to dig in the sand while Ansel is a little fish.

There is one nice park within walking distance from our house. I don't take the kids much because it is about .75 miles and we have to cross a busy street. Lame, I know. But, on this day, we went and had fun.

Amalia was so cute in this little outfit.

Took the kids to Pier 39 and the Aquarium by the Bay in SF.
Kids with Alcatraz in the background. Amalia hasn't figured out the pose thing yet, although Ansel did his best to restrain her.

This was Amalia's first Merry-Go-Round ride. She wasn't super excited while it was going around but serious. As soon as it stopped she signed and said, "More! more!"

The Aquarium has a very cool glass tunnel to walk through with sharks, rays, and fish swimming along side and above you. Quite something to see.

On the way home we checked off another item from our summer to-do list. Ansel wanted to go to Treasure Island (I think the name was alluring). The view from the island is stunning. This picture does not do it justice. We drove around but there is not much to see apart from the view.

Could she be any cuter?

Ansel and I have our regular treats that we make together- pancakes, banana bread, and cookies. Occasionally a cake or cupcakes. I think on this day it was cookies.

Our tomato plants did very well in height and production this year but lagged in the ripening. We hope September will be the month for harvesting. Jeremy is especially proud of our plants and took extra special care of them. Ansel loved helping in the garden this summer. He ate his fare share of sugar snap peas, basil, carrots, strawberries and blackberries.

The final hurrah before I went back to work in earnest was a trip to the Golden Gate Model Railroad Museum in Richmond with our friends Allison, Scott and Nicole. We flew kites first and had a picnic.
