We have been talking about taking Ansel camping all summer and finally, now that it is fall, have done something about it. We spent one night at Big Basin in the hills near Santa Cruz last night. It is a family friendly spot with large campsite surrounded by redwood trees. There is a slight walk-in to the site so we avoided RVs and loud car campers. Although, we were next to a group of preteen girls playing a rousing game of geographical trivia in the wee hours of 9pm. We were down in a valley so it got very cold (35 degrees) at night. We christened our new family tent which fit Jeremy, Ansel's pack n play portable crib and myself. Unfortunately, Ansel woke for two hours in the night but besides that we had a lovely time. Ansel loved exploring sticks, moss, pine cones, leaves, dirt. He'd live outside given the chance.
